A VIN scanner for mechanics that fills in the truck for you

Scan the VIN barcode with your camera or type the 17 characters. Year, make, model and engine fill in from NHTSA's free database, and the vehicle saves to your customer.

WrenchStrike Add vehicle screen with Scan VIN and Decode buttons, and year, make and model filled in from NHTSA

Why it helps

Once the truck's in, price the work: what a mobile mechanic should charge per hour.

How it works

Add a vehicle in three steps

  1. Add a vehicle

Open the customer, or start a job, and tap Add vehicle.

  2. Scan or type the VIN

Scan VIN reads the barcode and decodes it. Typed it in? Tap Decode.

  3. Save it

Add mileage and plate, then save. The vehicle stays with that customer.

FAQ

VIN scanner questions

Does the VIN decode cost anything?
No. It uses NHTSA's free public vehicle database. Decoding needs a signal; the rest of the app works offline.
What if the scan won't read or there's no signal?
Type the VIN, or pick year, make and model from NHTSA's list, which is kept on your phone for offline use. You can always fill the fields in by hand.
What if I mistype a VIN?
The app checks the VIN's check digit and won't save one that doesn't add up.
